 Why it's important to keep your hearing aids clean?

Wax build-up is one of the main reasons why hearing aids need repairing.Clean your hearing aids to ensure that they keep doing their job.

Clean RIC

Receiver-In-Canal molds should be cleaned regularly. Use a soft cloth to clean the surface of the mold.

Clean ITE

In-The-Ear mold should be wiped clean with a dry cloth. Clean the ventilation opening by pressing the brush through the hole while twisting it slightly. The wax filter should also be cleaned regularly.

Clean BTE

Behind-The-Ear molds can be washed when detached from the hearing aid. Be aware that Receiver-In-Canal molds can’t be washed, so make sure you know which solution you have.

How do I clean my in the ear (ITE) hearing aids?

When cleaning an ITE model, follow these steps:

Wipe down your hearing aids with a cloth, tissue, or designated hearing aid wipes or disinfecting spray (listed above).

Locate the microphone and speaker ports of your hearing aids. Keep in mind that some hearing aids have two microphone ports. The speaker port is often times covered with a white wax filter.

Use a brush over the microphone (1st) and speaker ports (2nd) to remove any loose wax or debris.

Use a wax pick to clear out the microphone or speaker port. Do not stick anything longer into the microphone or speaker port, as it can damage the components. Replace the wax filter if needed.

Locate the vent of the hearing aid. This is an opening that allows air to go from one side of the hearing aid to the other. Use a vent cleaner to clear out the vent of the hearing aid.

Store your hearing aid overnight in it’s dehumidifer.

The following daily maintenance routines will help you get the best performance and value from your behind the ear (BTE) hearing aids. It only takes a few minutes a day and will extend the life of your hearing aids.

Wipe your earmold daily with a moist cleansing wipe or tissue.

Check the opening of the earmold and carefully remove any wax. The opening should never be blocked.

Earmolds can be washed in warm water with gentle soap, weekly at most.

The earmold must be removed from the hearing aid before washing. Your hearing aids must never come in contact with liquids.

The earmold and tubing must be completely dry before reattaching to your hearing aid.

Check your hearing aid to ensure any buttons, dials and the battery door are working smoothly.

Contact your Connect Hearing clinic if you feel any discomfort while wearing your earmold, if you are unable to remove wax from the opening, if the tube turns yellowish or brittle or if you notice any changes in the sound quality of your hearing aid.

How do I clean my receiver in the canal (RIC) hearing aids?

Locate the microphone of your hearing aids. Keep in mind that some hearing aids have two microphone ports.

Use a brush over the microphone ports to remove any loose wax or debris.

Use a wax pick to clear out the holes at the tip of the earmold or dome. Do not stick anything longer into the speaker port, as it can damage the components. Replace the wax filter if needed.

If you have an earmold on the hearing aid, locate the vent of the earmold and use a vent cleaner to clear out the vent. This is an opening that allows air to go from one side of the hearing aid to the other.
